ACFO calls for diesel levy to be scrapped

Fleet operators’ organisation ACFO has called on the UK Finance Ministry (Treasury) to scrap a diesel levy. The levy in question is the 3% ‘benefit in kind’ surcharge applied to diesels, over and above tax calculations based on purchase price and CO2 emissions. In direct talks with the Treasury and the Revenue and Customs office, ACFO pointed out that modern diesels pollute less than petrol-engined cars, and that they have significantly improved fuel consumption. The tax was first introduced almost a decade ago, it said, and the situation has totally changed now.
