The Linde Group and Sapphire Energy Inc. have announced a joint project to supply carbon dioxide for the production of fuel from algae. The German and American companies are to use CO2 from large producers of the gas such as power stations and chemicals plants. This process is designed both to solve part of the problem of greenhouse gases emitted by such installations, and provide a low-cost solution for the production of this promising alternative fuel. According to calculations, one algae-fuel production facility requires 10,000 tonnes of CO2 per day.
