China needs an EV roadmap

The lack of a clear roadmap is likely to hinder the introduction of electric vehicles into China, reports cars 21. The market is now the largest car market in the world, and numerous automotive companies have identified the huge potential it offers (as those attending the recent Fleet Europe Forum in Madrid heard first hand). The Chinese government wishes to encourage the development of electric vehicles, and within this context it has introduced its ‘New Energy Vehicle Development Plan’, although this is still awaiting approval. However, in a bid not to lose out to foreign models such as the Nissan Leaf (photo) local car makers including BYD and SAIC have already introduced electric models onto the market.
