C.A.R. News has published an article which attempts to summarise the current state of the electric car phenomenon. Author Jose Luis Criado starts by pointing out that electric cars were already on the market a hundred years ago. In modern times, he points out that the way electricity is generated is crucial. Generating it from fossil fuels for use in electric cars is pointless. But the so-called ‘clean’ energy sources are only economic when accompanied by government subsidies.<br>
In the eyes of C.A.R. news, the responsibility for ensuring that the right type of vehicle is produced for the future lies with the regulatory bodies, not the consumer (in our case, company fleets). The conclusion, having looked at the relatively limited offer of ‘clean’ cars on the market, is that electric cars will have to continue to develop, but that their use will be urban first, and legally imposed even before they are economically beneficial.
