EVBox has just installed its 50,000th charging point worldwide. The producer of software and hardware for electric-vehicle (EV) charging placed the symbolic charging point at the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator in California.
The success of the Netherlands-based company reflects the rapid adoption of EVs worldwide; in 2016, their global number surpassed two million, with EV sales growing an impressive 46% in the U.S. alone. That, in turn is the result of dropping battery prices, and a widening choice of longer-range EV models.
“55% of EV drivers in the U.S. ask for more charging stations. We can give them the driving experience they expect and deserve. Hitting the 50,000 mark is a direct result of that ambition”, says EVBox CEO Kristof Vereenooghe.
Active in 30 countries, EVBox took seven years to reach 50,000 charging stations. It wants to double that number in less than two years.
