First Model 3's delivered on July 28, says Musk

Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk today tweeted that the first Model 3 will roll off the production line next Friday and that the first thirty customers will take delivery of their car on Friday July 28. That is sooner than expected. The next 100 units will be handed over to their pioneering owners in August, with more than 1,500 Model 3s following in September. By December 2017, the monthly production output should reach 20,000.

Since the model was shown to the public in April 2016, Tesla has taken some 400,000 orders, most of which reside in the U.S. Contrary to Model S and Model X owners, Model 3 drivers will not have free access to Tesla’s Supercharger network. European customers won’t be served until 2018, incidentally. By then, GM might have worked its way through the backorders for its Chevrolet Bolt.
