The annual ‘Company Car Drive’ is taking place at Monza in the north of Italy, on May 18 and 19. The event is under the auspices of Italian Fleet and automotive associations AIAGA, UNRAE and ANIASA, and is sponsored by Econometrica. A number of fleet and car-related suppliers, such as GAC Technology for example, or Bridgestone Tyres, Arval…, also have stands presenting their services. There are also workshops and conferences.
The event, on the celebrated race track, features a range of manufacturers with cars available for testing – on the surrounding roads, off road and, of course, on the track itself. Several hundred Italian or Italy-based fleet managers do not miss the opportunity to find out what some of Europe’s major manufacturers have on offer, or of course to have a spin round the track!
Fleet Europe benefited from the occasion to conduct a ‘Face to Face’ interview with two respected Italian fleet managers. This will be published in a forthcoming edition of the magazine.
Taking a look at the Italian car market, figures from the Corporate Vehicle Obsevatory show that following the crisis which hit sales in the 2012 to 2014 period, a marked improvement is now underway. From a low point of around 1.3 million sales in 2013, over 1.8 million vehicles were sold last year. The highest figure of recent years was some 2.5 million in 2007. Where fleets are concerned, two thirds (67%) of Italian fleets have 1-9 vehicles, against a European average of a little over half (54%). This is counter-balanced by the 10-99 vehicles category – 22% and 34% respectively.
