Mobile World Congress 2017: Between connectivity and 5G tech

Mobile World Congress 2017

From 27 February to 2 March, the city of Barcelona is again the host of the Mobile World Congress, the biggest conference focusing on telecommunication, mobile tech and connectivity. Since a few years automotive suppliers and car manufacturers are showcasing new developments at the Mobile World Congress as the topic of connected services, infotainment and enhanced driver behaviour tech has become as important as the engine performances or the design of the vehicle.

Looking at the programme and the companies present, this year the Mobile World Congress conference will provide an in-depth insight into the future mobile industry, with a focus on areas of growth and opportunity. If we take a look at what we saw with the automotive related suppliers and car embedded services, there are two areas where we can expect important developments: the expanding field in which connected car services are operating and can bring added value. From vehicle to vehicle connectivity over vehicle to infrastructure intelligence to smart city development, in which effiency and safety are by far the most important reasons, and key drivers that will indeed support the fleet and mobility community towards a more intelligent, more safe and more sustainable mobility.

The second pillar is the development of the 5G network for data transmission which will make data processing faster and easier and so more secure for a larger community, but 5G in automotive is also supporting the autonomous and self-driving technology build-up aimed to be in use by 2020.
