Opel Astra now available with CNG

The compact hatchback and estate car from Rüsselsheim can now be ordered with a factory-fitted CNG system. Based on the 1.4 Turbo ECOTEC, this natural gas burning model delivers 110 hp and 200 Nm of torque, available between 2,000 and 3,600 rpm, which makes it comparable to competitors VW Golf TGI and SEAT Leon TGI.

Efficiency-wise, the Astra CNG, which will be revealed at the IAA next month, uses between 4.1 and 4.3 kg of compressed natural gas per 100 km (NEDC). Its twin Type 4 carbon fibre CNG tanks can store up to 19 kg of gas, while the petrol tank can hold 13.7 litres of unleaded. To help drivers to use CNG as much as possible, petrol stations offering natural gas are stored in the Astra’s navigation system’s POI.
