Skoda goes electric in 2020

After Volkswagen and Audi, the more democratic Skoda will also gain access to the groups electric vehicle technology, starting in 2020. The Czech carmaker will be revealing a prototype during the Shanghai motor show (19 – 29 April). This Skoda Visoin E heralds a coupé-style SUV offers 500 kilometres of e-range and level 3 autonomous driving capability. Four other electric models will follow by 2025, reports Skoda.

The first electrified Skoda will be the Superb, by the way. It will be market-ready by 2018-2019 - when the model gets its midlife facelift - and probably use the same powertrain as the Passat GTE, namely a turbocharged 1.4 petrol engine producing 156 hp combined with a 115 hp electric motor, which is integrated in the automatic DSG transmission and gets is power from a 9.9 kWh lithium ion battery.
