TomTom partners with Amsterdam

Amsterdam

TomTom and the City of Amsterdam have concluded a partnership that aims to improve the flow of traffic and utilisation of parking spaces in the Dutch capital. TomTom will examine new ways to measure traffic, understand parking behaviour, thus helping city planners to make better decisions on urban mobility and accessibility.

Under the agreement, road closures and other traffic measures will be monitored in detail, allowing for rapid intervention to counter any negative consequences. TomTom hopes to gain insight in the specific mobility needs of cities, and adapt its product offering accordingly.

“If your nav system guides you directly to a parking spot, you’ll avoid driving around looking for one for countless kilometers”, cited Amsterdam Deputy Mayor Pieter Litjens as one example of the positive effects on accessibility, traffic flow and air quality the partnership with TomTom could have.
