Utility Vehicle sales up 55% in Spain

Last month, 115,000 new vehicles were registered in Spain, up 3.5% over July 2016. This despite a 3.5% drop for the Private market; the growth came from positive results for Special Channels (+12.4%) and the True Fleet market (+15%). The latter result helped push the half-year growth for Spanish True Fleets up to 13.4%, says Dataforce, which released the figures.

July also was a spectacular success for Nissan, which jumped eight places to #1 in the True Fleet manufacturers ranking.

Second-strongest grower (after Nissan) was local brand SEAT, increasing its year-on-year sales by 66.2% and leaping from 10th to 3rd place, 100 units shy of VW on 2nd. Audi (4th) leapfrogged over Mercedes (5th) and Renault (6th), who both retained their places.

July was slightly negative for Peugeot (7th) and Ford (8th), with BMW (9th) growing by a mere 24 units. Opel lost ground for the fourth month in a row, falling from 2nd to 10th position.

Year to date, three vehicle segments have shown considerable growth in the Spanish True Fleet market: SUVs in 1st place, up 27.1% over the same period last year;  Small Cars, up by 32.0%, will soon pose a serious challenge to Compact Cars in 2nd place; and Utilities, showing the strongest growth of any segment so far this year (+55.2%).

In fact, Utility Vehicle sales have grown so strong in the first seven months of this year that they are just 1,300 units below last year's total figure.
