The Parisian authorities have announced that they want to double the use of bicycles in the city within ten years. There will be an extra 700 km of bike lanes created, including two major routes (north-south and east-west). A number of itineraries will be signposted in a similar fashion the metro system. Starting from this month, two-way bike lanes will be created in all 30 km/h zones, including on one-way streets. To facilitate the logistical issues, one thousand extra bike parking stands will be installed each year, and bike garages will be set up near railway stations. Extending the network to surrounding towns is also under consideration.
