False dawn for Italian market?
|
The Italian marketsaw its new car registrations jump by almost a third in January, compared to the same month in 2009. Two factors played a part in this – firstly, January 2009 was the lowest for more than a decade, and secondly, many orders placed in December 2009 before the ending of the state aid scheme, were delivered in January. However, the Italian Manufacturers Association Anfia warns that although this overhang will lead to registrations until March, the current state of order intake means that the market is likely to collapse. Italian brands led the way in January, Fiat up by 29.1%, Alfa Romeo by 24% and Lancia by 42.5%.
