BMW pulls out all stops with 40 new models

BMW-X2
The Bavarian carmaker is about to unleash its most impressive product offensive in its history to try and reclaim the global sales throne from Mercedes, reports Automotive News Europe.

Between now and 2019, BMW will release 40 new or revamped models, starting with the compact cross-over X2 (pictured) and the Range Rover-rivalling X7 later this year. Electrified mobility takes an important place in its growth strategy.

“We have started a transformation unlike anything our company has seen before”, said CEO Harald Krueger, who needs to invest a considerable amount of the group's earnings in the costly change to electric and self-driving vehicles.

Still, profitability is more important than the sales volume race, said Chief Financial Officer Nicolas Peter. BMW Group deliveries rose 5.2 percent to 2 million cars in 2016 - 80,000 less than competitor Mercedes, which grew 11 percent worldwide.
