British start-up attracts funding to revolutionise parking

AppyParking, a British tech start up, has attracted millions of pounds in investment to build the ultimate parking app.

The company’s founder and chief executive Dan Hubert aims to create a complete roadmap of parking spaces across the UK and beyond so that when driverless vehicles become commonplace, they will easily find a spot.

Founded in 2013, the company has collated on and off-street paring information across London and 11 of the UK’s biggest cities. For the past month the system has been trialled by a plumbing and engineering business in London in collaboration with Vodafone and Westminster Council.

The platform relies on sensors embedded in parking spaces to detect when they are occupied, plus mobile network connections that are being fitted in new vehicles.

AppyParking will now use the investment to gather data from local councils to build a seamless parking system, including support for electronic payments.
