Seat Ibiza + SUV = Arona

As announced a few months ago, Spanish Volkswagen subsidiary SEAT launches an urban cross-over to compete with such crossovers as the (recently facelifted) Renault Captur, Peugeot 2008 and Opel Mokka X. The newcomer goes by the name Arona, after a city on the isle of Tenerife, and rests on platform of the brand-new Ibiza.

Compared to the latter, the Arona is 79 mm longer and 99 mm taller, creating more headroom for the passengers and more luggage capacity in the rear (400 litres). Technology and powertrains are carried over from the Ibiza, which automatically means that all-wheel drive is not available. The good news is that this also means the Arona has access to such advanced features as active cruise control, AEB City, an anti multi crash system, et cetera.

SEAT is not the first to launch a new urban crossover this month: a few weeks ago, Citroën revealed the C3 Aircross, Hyundai pulled the sheet off the Kona and Kia showed us the Stonic. Indeed, the B SUV segment is expected to grow considerably over the next few years.
