German drivers no longer choosing own cars

The results of a survey carried out by Arval on German company car policies shows that they play an important role in the remuneration and incentive package. However, autoflotte reports that the days of free ‘user-chooser’ selection are virtually over. Within the eleven provinces (Länder) and 3,300 fleet decision makers who made up the survey, it was found that 62% of drivers had no say at all in the type of car supplied. In 17% of cases drivers could choose from a pre-determined list, and in 20% of cases drivers could choose from a set budget. Arval director Reinhard Happel explained that in most cases, car choice was determined within company car policy, with technical, operational and hierarchical considerations being taken into account.
