Hans Damen has a wealth of experience in the leasing industry, starting in 1991 with Interleasing, and moving on to Fleet Synergy. So what made him decide to launch his own company, FleetVision, at the beginning of 2009?
What gap did you identify in the marketplace to persuade you to create FleetVision?
Hans Damen: I noticed that negotiations focussed on short term gains while long term objectives were undervalued or insufficiently secured. It was becoming difficult to justify the real benefits for either side in international arrangements while so many saving opportunities remained untouched.
What did you set out to do in concrete terms?
Hans Damen: It is my role to show clients how to best structure an international arrangement both internally and externally. The concept is a true service, showing the client what is really important in their international arrangement across various areas. It is essential that clients see their leasing companies as partners, not just as commodity suppliers. The starting point has to be fair with competitive pricing, that can withstand time and changing market conditions. We help our clients to secure and monitor the overall performance of their providers applying our product portfolio including contract management, policy reviews, environmental and driver programmes as well as dashboard reporting.
Tell us about your ‘Dashboard’ tool.
Hans Damen: The basic concept is that of a car dashboard. You do not look at this all the time, you keep your eyes on the road ahead, and only look at the dashboard occasionally, or if a light flashes. Our tool is the same, a sort of exception reporting tool which allows the client to keep their eyes on their company’s long term objectives. We initiate this process buy conducting a total cost of ownership audit. We then help the company to set and keep to their own goals. Quarterly reports help highlight whether they are still on track. The fleet management industry is becoming more and more complicated. FleetVision aims to simplify it.
