IFMI Expert Session on Car Policy Harmonisation
|
18 fleet managers can’t be wrong
On the 15th October 2008 international fleet managers from around the world participated in the Expert Session of the International Fleet Managers Institute (IFMI) in Berlin. This year, the 18 fleet managers present got a clearer view on the subject of Car Policy Harmonisation. It’s no secret that companies having an international fleet do benefit in a number of areas from harmonising the way they resource and manage their vehicles. Matt Dyer, managing director of LeasePlan International, showed this year’s participants the road map to successfully aligning the fleet policy on an international scale. A correct alignment can simplify a number of fleet management processes throughout the organisation whilst keeping an eye on driver satisfaction.
Think global…
Of course this alignment has to follow taxation rules in different countries. Bart Vanham, Director of PricewaterhouseCoopers, explained not only these differences, but pointed out which taxes are having an important impact on the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and he showed some car taxation opportunities. Due to country differences not all policy elements can be brought to an international level. There are some things you have to manage locally. Wim Halsberghe, general manager of Fleet Synergy International, showed the participants of the IFMI how to make sure that the international fleet strategy meets the local expectations.
It can be done
In the afternoon there was time for best practices and sharing views on international fleet management with peers. Three international recognised fleet managers - Luc Dendievel from Johnson & Johnson, Gaël Robert from UTC and Lutz Hansen from Bayer – showed the way they tackle and implement an international car policy successfully but differently.
Into the future
Developing and integrating a new international fleet policy often results in some conflictive situations between the key influencers on fleet management within the company. Ludovic Musy of Arval stressed out what can be done to ensure that HR and procurement are equally committed prior to the Request for Porposal (RFP) being launched. To end the busy but highly interesting expert session on car policy harmonization Marcel De Rycker, Senior Manager International Corporate Sales at Mercedes-Benz Cars, showed the vision of today’s global car manufacturers toward the green challenge. The conclusion was made by Olivier Fossion, Head of International Sales at ALD Automotive. Mr Fossion drew up some guidelines to harmonize an international fleet as well as a series of practical tools to allow a company specific toolbox for successfully building an international car policy.
Fleet Europe wishes to thank all the participants for their contribution this event and is looking forward to seeing them and you at the next IFMI session in March 2009. You will find more details about this event shortly on our website.
