The Volkswagen group has announced that it wishes to achieve 3% of its sales in electric vehicles by 2018. Chairman of the Board Martin Winterkorn announced in Geneva that there would already be an electric Golf in production by 2013. A fleet of 500 of these cars is to be tested during 2011. Alongside this will be an electric Jetta and ‘Up’. “We will be the first manufacturer to bring out an electric car for everybody”, announced Martin Winterkorn. This move comes on top of the VW hybrid programme, which includes the Touereg, Jetta and Passat in 2012.
