Jeanne Bennenbroek (Atos Origin): “Know your fleet”
Share
Atos Origin is an international service provider in the field of IT, with in excess of 50 000 employees in 50 countries (predominantly France, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands).
The new fleet policy mission, required to streamline a fleet of more than 6 000 cars on a pan-European level, is not only to keep the fleet costs under control, but also to keep sufficient flexibility (for the driver also!) and to retain a relatively simple control of the management and the costs.
The Dutch Jeanne Bennenbroek was given precisely one year (in 2001) to bring this case to a successful end. To achieve this she took into consideration only the 7 largest “fleet” countries, the 8 most important manufacturers and the 3 lessors active in all 7 countries.
“In order to know where you can win you need in-depth fleet knowledge in each country”, according to Jeanne Bennenbroek. Even though this also implies the analysis of a cartload of various data. This is followed by the negotiations with the selected manufacturers and lessors. And in this light Jeanne Bennenbroek comments that in fact it is the contract phase which can take up a large amount of time. The latter ranging from 3 months to 1 year from first draft through to the final version!
On the manufacturers side Atos Origin opted for the VAG Group and Renault. On the lessor side the decision fell to work with one sole supplier, in this case LeasePlan, which also took over the management of the existing fleet.
As a final word of advice Jeanne Bennenbroek specifically recommended monitoring the implementation and integration results and to constantly follow up the evolution of the benchmarking within the sector.
