Keep MOT at current level - Roadsafe
|
Roadsafe, a partnership of companies in the motor and transport industries, is urging the government not to heed pressure to decrease the frequency at which MOT tests (technical controls on the continent) are carried out. There is a lobby to reduce these tests to once every two years, with a starting date when the car is four years old – both of these represent the European minimum requirement. At the moment, the timings in the UK are once a year from three years old. The Ministry of Transport itself has reported that the already high failure rate of over one third is still rising, and Roadsafe fears that any relaxation of the regime would worsen the situation and lead to more accidents and more lives at risk.
