Mercedes-Benz is talking to several parties in the Netherlands to introduce the international car share programme Car2go, according to the website of the Dutch trade publication Automotive. The Car2go programme will allow drivers to use gps to locate - and rent - Car2go's nearest Smart car. Subscribers to the programme will be paying by the minute, and will be allowed to leave the car wherever they please.
Car2go is already operational in the cities of Ulm (Germany) and Austin (Texas). Mercedes-Benz hopes to introduce the system in the Netherlands by 2011. The Dutch version of the programme will possibly use electric Smarts.
