LeasePlan Belgium has delivered six electric cars to SNCB Holding (the Belgian rail operator) in a pilot project also involving Siemens and the governmental Department of the Economy. The philosophy behind this move is to test the multi-modal possibilities of using an electric car and the train from sociological, economic, technological and environmental viewpoints. 
The test, from March to June, involves three inhabitants of Liège and three of Gent, who will be using these electric Nissan Leaf cars for the first part of their home-work journey. From April, two Siemens employees will be testing the cars for the second part of their home-work journey, namely from the station to the office. Electric charging points are installed in the stations, and the real-time pilot scheme may see these extended to thirty four stations.
