Fiat is to invest BRL 3 billion (approximately €1.3 billion) to construct a new plant in the Port and Industrial District in Suape in the State of Pernambuco in Brazil. Fiat has been market leader in the country for almost a decade.  This investment forms part of the BRL 10 billion (€4.4 billion) that Fiat had already announced it was to invest in Brazil between 2011 and 2014. The region in which this new plant is to be located is currently undergoing substantial industrialisation. The Fiat plant will include R&D and training facilities as well as a production unit. The production capacity will amount to 200,000 vehicles a year, destined for the local and South American markets. The unit is expected to employ around 3,500.
