Citroën to reveal compact SUV C3 Aircross

Citroen SUV C3 Aircross

Citroën is preparing the successor to the C3 Picasso, which swops its boxy MPV style for a more adventurous cross over shape and changes its name to C3 Aircross. This sounds a lot like a story we have heard before – indeed, Opel also recently announced the successor to the B-segment minivan Meriva would get an SUV-ish successor, called the Crossland X. Coincidence? Not exactly. The C3 Aircross and its German rival have ben joint-developed and will both be built by Opel in Zaragoza, Spain.

Even though it looks like they can handle rough terrain, neither the Crossland X nor the C3 Aircross will be offered with four-wheel drive. The engine line up – ranging from a 1.2 three-cylinder petrol offering 81 hp to a 1.6 four-cylinder diesel producing 120 hp – is PSA-sourced. Opel’s and Citroën’s biological twins will be revealed to the public in Geneva in a few weeks time.
