As of February, Telepass is also available in Austria. It is the first e-toll provider to be accredited in the Alpine country, and is now available in seven European countries. In 2018, Telepass will be extended to Germany, and will then cover more than 64,000 km of toll roads.
The accreditation, by Austria's motorway network operator Asfinag, confirms Telepass's market leadership in electronic toll payment provision. The Italy-based company currently manages 9 million in-vehicle boxes, including almost 600,000 in heavy-goods vehicles. It is the first one to propose a solution that works across the various toll systems in France, Austria, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Belgium and Poland.
But Telepass is more than a system to open motorway toll barries in multiple countries. The box also provides access to selected secure car parks across Europe, easier access to certain ferry services, etc. Telepass aims to enrich the additional services it offers as it continues to expand the geographic scope of its core, e-toll payment service.
