Keith Allen, ARI: Widespread adoption of telematics is “inevitable”

Keith Allen, ARI

The drive to reduce fleet cost and improve driver behaviour is making widespread adoption of telematics inevitable. In a keynote speech, Keith Allen, Managing Director of ARI Fleet UK, provided his vision on how Big Data could lead to big savings for fleet managers.

Technology is leading the way. Cloud computing will allow greater data and system integration, resulting in highly customisable solutions for fleet managers. For instance, it is widely predicted that vehicle-generated data will allow fleets to target replacements on a vehicle-by-vehicle basis rather than by a generalised replacement date.

Over the next 5 to 10 years, the biggest impact may be reserved for data analytics: translating massive amounts of raw data into predictions, recommendations and best practices. This will certainly increase the number of driver management tools.

But the breakthrough of telematics in the fleet sector is dependent on two things happening. First, a standardisation of data between different providers, devices and vehicle types. And second, telematics solutions that better serve full-fleet compatibility.
