Opel drivers get free trial of OnStar connectivity system

Starting this August, Opel customers will have 12 months free access to OnStar, the brand's new mobility and assistance service for cars, which includes a 4G LTE wifi hotspot function. With OnStar, which will initially be rolled out in 13 European countries, Opel is aiming for next-level connectivity, increasing both comfort and safety for its drivers.

The car's in-built 4G hotspot – initially only available in the UK, the Netherlands and Germany - enables faster, better and more data traffic for up to 7 devices in the car, allowing passengers to work or play as they wish.

If OnStar detects the deployment of an airbag or other indications of a collision, an advisor will contat the driver to verify whether assistance is required. The system also offers help in case of roadside breakdowns.

Drivers can download an app that allows them to communicate with their car, and with the OnSrtar call centre, via their smartphone. The app provides information on tyre pressure and oil levels; locate, open and close the car; download destinations to its navigation system, block the engine in case of theft, etc.

Drivers can request a monthly status report for their car, or produce one at the press of a button.
