Spanish True Fleets grow 18% in January

Ford Fiesta 2017

In Spain, True Fleets are extending their strong growth into the new year. Figures released by Dataforce show that the market grew by 18% in January, year-on-year. The total car market in Spain had a strong showing as well, delivering just under 90,000 units, an improvement of 12.1% over January 2016.

Of the three most popular True Fleet segments (SUV, Compact and Small Car), growth was strongest in Small Cars (+26.8%). Most popular brands in this segment were Renault, Ford, Peugeot, Seat and VW, in that order. Ford has moved up from 7th place previous January thanks to 132.8% growth, mainly the result of excellent sales of the new Fiesta (pictured), and to a lesser extent the Ka+. The launch of the new Ibiza, at the end of January, should give a boost to sagging Seat sales.

The Compact Car segment grew by just 5.9%. Audi (+217.5%) muscled into first place and BMW (+230.8%) into third, with Ford moving up into fourth place. VW (second) and Seat (fifth) kept their place in last January's ranking.

The SUV segment registered strong growth (+29.2%), with the four biggest-selling brands maintaining last years ranking: Mercedes, followed by Nissan, Audi and BMW. Toyota climbed from eleventh to fifth place, thanks to brisk sales of the RAV4 and the C-HR (which by itself took up 35.8% of Toyota’s sales volume).
