Voilà: le brand new DS 7 Crossback

DS 7 Crossback

It was already caught on camera in Shanghai by an innocent bystander a few weeks ago, but this is the official picture, released a few moments ago by DS Automobiles. PSA has high expectations for this midsized premium SUV model, which is based on the Peugeot 3008. The French carmaker presents the DS 7 Crossback as a ‘haute couture’ alternative to the usual German suspects (BMW X1, Audi Q3, Mercedes GLA) and the Range Rover Evoque.

At last week's press conference, PSA CEO Carlos Tavares stressed that PSA will be patient with the DS brand. "On a premium brand we cannot rush. We need to do things right, things right on service, things right on brand new technology, things right on fit and finish, and things right on quality."

Earlier this month, PSA announced their latest addition would have advanced self-driving capabilities, without specifying any further.

Customers can choose between six powertrains: all turbocharged four-cylinders, two of which are diesels, three run on petrol and one is a plug-in hybrid with all-wheel-drive. Depending on the model, the power is transmitted through a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic.

The DS 7 Crossback will be built in Mulhouse, France, and Shenzhen, China.
