SEAT has announce its entry into the domain of electric cars. The company has just presented an electric version of the Altea XL Ecomotive, along with a Leon TwinDrive Ecomotive plug-in hybrid which it plans to start producing from 2015. Over the coming months SEAT is to undertake real time testing of these models by making them available to governmental institutions in the Spain's two major cities – Madrid and Barcelona.

The decision to launch these two types of alternatively powered cars at the same time is designed to demonstrate the manufacturer’s commitment to a range of new energy solutions. SEAT president James Muir speaks of customers demanding a more sustainable form of mobility, but having diverse needs. SEAT is also to launch four new models onto the market within the coming twelve months, starting with the city-car Mii.
