Standard recharging a step nearer

The standardisation of electric vehicle charging points took a step forwards recently at a round table held in Washington. The International Electrotechnical Commission and (IEC) e8 – a global organisation of world electrical companies – were able to agree on the IEC’s proposals in this domain. Agreeing on global international standards is considered to be vital in the development of electric vehicles. According to the IEC’s former vice president Frank Kitzantides, charging points need to be ‘user-friendly, largely the same, easy and safe to operate’. Within this context, the round table agreed on the connector and plug equipment proposals both on the charging point and on the vehicle.
