Tesco in safe driving move
|
In a new move to encourage safe driving, Tesco has announced that it is to use its telematics systems to monitor the speed of its home delivery drivers (‘tesco dotcom’). This will enable the supermarket company to compare the speed of its vehicles with the speed limit in force on any particular journey, reports Fleet News. As Tesco wishes to be transparent with regard to its drivers, it has decided to use information gathered from the car’s speedometer, which the driver can see, rather than from a GPS system, which he can’t see. A procedure for dealing with the most persistent offenders, or those who exceed speed limits by the greatest margins, will be introduced. Tesco expects to see a reduction in fuel consumption along with fewer accidents as a result of this scheme, and emphasises that its drivers are given enough time in their schedules to make their deliveries without speeding.
