On November 19th the cream of the fleet management world came together in Amsterdam on the occasion of the annual Fleet Europe Forum. No less than 375 persons attended the Forum and, after a morning of networking in the Fleet Europe Village, participants were invited to attend presentations, including a face-to-face meeting between Gianluca Soma, CEO, ALD Automotive Group and Lorenzo Sistino, CEO, Fiat Automobiles, and a panel discussion led by industry specialists.
The Fleet Europe Forum focused this year on the reconstruction of the international fleet business in the wake of the crisis. Opening the event, MMM Business Media Editorial Director Caroline Thonnon and Commercial Director Guido Schouteet commented: “The market is recovering slowly but surely, and our world and environment have most certainly changed”.
They then presented the speakers who were attempting to help their fleet professional colleagues refine their fleet strategies in these unknown times. The Forum began with a face to face debate between two leading automotive industry players: Gianluca Soma – CEO ALD Automotive Group – and Lorenzo Sistino – CEO Fiat Automobiles. Their main point was that new solutions need to be applied during these new circumstances. The two following presentations were case studies from the International Fleet Manager of the Year 2008, Claus-Peter Krüger of Shell, and Christy Coyte, Global Fleet Manager at Johnson Controls. Vincent Rupied of Arval followed on, speaking about the IFRS accounting regulations and the effect on the car lease market. Then came Steffen Schick (EurotaxGlass’s, residual values) and Joeri Van Mierlo (Brussels Free University, electric and hybrid vehicles). Guido Schouteet spoke of the impact of the crisis, and the Forum finished with a lively and illuminating panel discussion.
