Tougher UK insurance regime

Company fleet operators are being advised by ACFO to take great care to ensure that all vehicles used for business trips – whether company-owned cars or not – are correctly insured and listed on the Motor Insurance Database. This is in the light of a new law to come into force on June 20th. Known as the Continuous Insurance Enforcement Law, it will mean that it is not only an offence to drive while uninsured, but an offence to keep an uninsured vehicle. Only by informing the authorities that a vehicle has been taken off the road is it legal to leave it uninsured, upon receipt of an official ‘Off Road’ notice from the DVLA. The new law is designed to crack down on the estimated 1.4 million uninsured drivers on British roads.
