Toyota delivers 400,000th hybrid in Europe

Earlier today Toyota delivered its 400,000th hybrid vehicle in Europe. The ceremony took place at a dealership in Brussels, just a few kilometres from Toyota Motor Europe’s headquarters and Research and Development facility. The car in question was an Auris hybrid, also of significance because this is the first Toyota hybrid model to be produced in Europe – at the plant close to Derby in the north of England.
The company receiving this car was IT services company CTG, and the person who actually took delivery was Junior Consultant Valentine Nkwocha, who will be the driver. This fact is also of interest, because when questioned about the position of Toyota hybrids in the fleet business, TME Vice-President Information Systems Pierre Masai said: “Hybrid is a strength of Toyota and is really increasing its place in fleets. This company is an IT company and it is the employees themselves who are selecting the Toyota hybrid within their company’s policy, and they select the model because they can see the benefits. The benefits are of course that the car is environmentally friendly and uses less fuel”. TME’s Jean-Yves Jault added: “We have a lot of enquiries from fleet managers for the car, and we even held a fleet manager’s day last year, when we explained the technology and how it works”.
According to Pierre Masai, since the first hybrids went on sale a total of 23 million tonnes of CO2 have avoided being emitted into the atmosphere.
