VW seeking alliance for self-driving standards

Volkswagen Group is looking for an alliance with other car makers to create an industry standard for self-driving technology, reports Automotive News.

This move is intended to offer car companies better legal protection in the event of accidents involving autonomous cars.

Automotive News reports a VW executive spoke on condition of anonymity as the plans were not public. He confirmed VW has entered discussions with 15 potential partners, including car makers, for an industry-wide alliance.

"I don't believe we are the only ones asking ourselves if we really want these kinds of risks," the executive told Automotive News. "No one wants a repeat of the Uber accident."
