BMW launches BMW CarData in Belgium and Luxembourg

The new CarData service by BMW, will allow Belgian and Luxembourg BMW drivers to use personalized services based on their vehicle data. This service offers benefits to customers such as individualized insurance premiums or quicker meeting appointments. The client fully manages who has access to this data and BMW confirms that BMW CarData fully complies with the European Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which will be in force in 2018.

BMW Group is the first car manufacturer to offer this service.

To use the service, the customer must have a BMW equipped with an integrated SIM card and ConnectedDrive Services and BMW CarData can be used at no charge. In Belgium and Luxembourg, the SIM card, including the eCall emergency call system, has been available as standard on every new BMW since 2015.

Outside service providers such as garages, insurance companies, fleet managers can also register with BMW CarData. If customers want to use a specific type of service and they explicitly give them access then these external companies will be informed via encrypted code and secure access. This information can serve as a basis for tailor-made services from the data: from infotainment to home automation.
