Connected Car Technology Enables Ford to recover stolen cars

Ford has announced the Stolen Vehicle Services solution.

Ford has introduced a fully integrated theft recovery solution called Stolen Vehicle Services to prevent car theft and recover stolen vehicles.

In case of a theft attempt, the system alerts the driver through the FordPass application. Drivers can then report the incident to the police by a single tap. After alerting the driver, the system provides the telephone numbers of the local police force according to the driver's current location.

This procedure enables drivers to obtain a crime reference number and call the Stolen Vehicle Services centre. After reporting the theft, the call centre remotely activates "theft mode", which disables some features of the car to make tracing easier.

Sensors detect a possible theft

Stolen Vehicle Services uses sensors on Ford cars to detect a possible theft. In an attempt to deactivate FordPass Connect, the system detects the changed location since the last time the ignition turned off.

Stolen Vehicle Services will be available initially for Mustang Mach-E GT and are expected to become available across Europe in 2022.
