Facelifted Fiat 500X gets TCO-friendly engines
The Italian B-segment crossover is halfway its career and powders its nose. More than just an aesthetic fresher-upper, the 500X receives the latest safety tech and connectivity features. As from now, you can have your Cinquecento Ixe with AEB (autonomous braking), adaptive cruise control, but also Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and online navigation thanks to TomTom Live.
The best news is that FCA has developed a new petrol engine family to comply with the latest emission standards. The ancient 1.4 is being replaced by a brand new 120-hp turbo-charged 1-litre consisting of three cylinders and a 150-hp 1.3 four-cylinder. The first one is mated to a 6-speed manual and boasts a NEDC correlated CO2 rating of 133 g/km. The second one comes with a dual-clutch transmission and posts 140 g/km in its most efficient configuration.
Up to 20 percent more fuel efficient
Fiat claims the new petrol engines burn up to 20 percent less fuel compared to the old 1.4, while also making 20 percent less noise than their diesel counterparts. Talking about the oily fuel: where diesel still makes sense, customers can opt for the updated 1.3, 1.6 and 2.0 MultiJet II. They all come with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), i.e. AdBlue injection in the exhaust, to comply with the Euro 6d-temp emission standard.
To the same effect, the new 1.0 and 1.3 petrol engines come with a gasoline particulate filter (GPF). The entry-level 1.6 four-cylinder remains available, but it uses nearly 1 litre of petrol more per 100 km and emits 154 g/km of CO2, making it a less attractive proposition TCO-wise.
