Facelifted Land Rover Discovery Sport to get plug-in hybrid

The Land Rover Discovery Sport will get a facelift which will include the introduction of a plug-in hybrid variant at the start of 2019, reports Autocar.

The Discovery Sport's platform will see extensive modifications to make room for the lithium ion batteries and to improve the vehicle's operational comfort. As is the case in the Range Rover P400e, the batteries will power an electric motor that will join forces with a three-cylinder petrol engine. CO2 emissions should be around 45g/km.

The other variants of the Discovery Sport will be mild hybrids, but  more details are not available yet.

The modifications to the vehicle are also expected to improve sound comfort and drag should decrease by 10%, improving fuel economy.

It remains to be seen to what extent Land Rover will update the Discovery Sport's interior and whether the new versions will benefit from modern connectivity and infotainment technology as is available in the Range Rover Velar.
