Badge engineering also for cars

Development alliances don’t only exist in the LCV world. For passenger cars, there are numerous examples as well. Mostly for vehicles that would cost too much to develop from scratch, given the limited volumes in a certain market niche. The Fiat Spider, for example, is a Mazda MX-5 with a slightly different design. The next generation of the Toyota Supra will be built alongside BMW’s next Z4. The Subaru BRZ and the Toyota GT86 are identical twins and the Citroën C1, Peugeot 108 and Toyota Aygo are built in the same factory.

Renault - Nissan - Opel/Vauxhall - Fiat

The Renault Trafic, Nissan NV300, Fiat Talento and Opel Vivaro are quadruplets. The vehicle came to market in 2014 as Renault Trafic and Opel Vivaro, followed by the Fiat-derivative Talento in 2016 and the Nissan NV300 in 2017. The Renault, Fiat and Nissan are built on the same production line in Sandouville, France, whereas the Opel/Vauxhall is produced in Luton, UK. The next Vivaro will no longer be part of this partnership, since Opel owner PSA decided to build the next generation alongside the Citroën Jumpy and Peugeot Expert.
