New Initiative for AVIS

Avis - turning rental car data into cash

Turning Rental Car Data into Cash

Avis Budget Group has enlisted the services of Tel Aviv-based start-up Otonomo to help turn data from its car rental fleet into a source of income.

The US car rental company that owns Avis, Budget and Zipcar, is linking its global fleet, in excess of 100,000 internet-connected vehicles, to the cloud-based market place run by Otonomo.

Huge growth potential for rental car data

Under the terms of the deal, Avis will sell data to over 100 companies connected to the Israeli start-up’s platform. Data will include location information, tire pressure and wiper blades.

Consulting firm McKinsey expects the market for vehicle data to grow to $750 billion globally by 2030 and there’s no shortage of takers for it - from insurance companies, retailers and the like.

This is yet another coup for Otonomo, which was a finalist in our 2018 Smart Mobility Start-up of the Year award. Backed by Daimler AG, the company claims to have 18 million vehicles connected to its platform.
