ALD offers car-sharing via Whim

From the end of this summer, ALD will provide car-sharing services in Helsinki via Whim, a Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) application developed by Finnish mobility company MaaS Global. Both companies have signed an agreement to that effect.

The Whim app bundles travel options from multiple providers – taxis, rental cars, public transport, city bikes – into a single, seamless service, advising subscribers on the best route and transportation mode(s) for their mobility needs.

Adding to the range of Whim's options in Helsinki, ALD will provide a pool of shared cars, initially available to Whim Unlimited subscribers only, later also to other Whim users.

To begin with, the ALD pool will consist of five models (VW Golf Variant, Nissan Note, Skoda Fabia Combi, Toyota Auris Touring Sport and Lexus CT 200h). They will be branded with both the Whim and ALD logos.

The cars can be reserved and unlocked via the Whim app and must be picked up and returned to EuroPark locations. Thanks to access via the app, this can be done 24/7. The rate is €22 for the first two hours and €5 for each consecutive half hour, with a daily max of €89. Fuel is included in the price. Refuelling (at Neste stations) will be refunded as if it was 30 minutes of car use.

“ALD has set itself an ambitious goal: to be the best partner for mobility needs”, says Päivi Lindqvist, Business Development Team Manager at ALD Automotive in Finland. “We have high expectations for this partnership, especially for what we can learn from each other about developing and promoting mobility services”.

“Through this co-operation, our customers will get a true alternative for owning a car”, says Jarkko Jaakkola, Area Manager for MaaS Global. “ALD’s presence in many countries will help us expand the service to more cities – both in Finland and abroad”.
