Van Laer new CEO of BDO Belgium

From 1 October, Peter Van Laer (pictured right) will take over from Hans Wilmots (left) as CEO of BDO Belgium. He will work in tandem with Johan Vandenbroeck, BDO Belgium's current General Counsel, who will take over as the company's Chairman on the same date.

Mr Van Laer (55) currently leads BDO Crossroad, a digital transformations specialist acquired by BDO Belgium in 2017. He has more than 30 years’ experience in the digital industry. Mr Van Laer started at KBC Group where, as General Manager of IT services, he managed a staff of more than 600. He started up Crossroad in 2007.

As BDO Belgium’s new CEO, Mr Van Laer will aim for further growth through exhaustive digital transformation. But despite his background in IT, his focus will be wider than niche markets such as cybersecurity, cloud services and ‘platformification’. Mr Van Laer also wants to broaden BDO Belgium’s multidisciplinary services from traditional activities.

Specialising in four areas (Audit & Assurance, Accounting & Reporting, Tax & Legal, and Advisory Services), BDO Belgium has more than 750 partners and staff in 11 offices throughout the country. The company has a leading position in the mid-market, with a special focus on family businesses. One avenue of growth could be to expand in the market of large multinational companies and groups – thanks to BDO’s worldwide network of more than 80,000 staff in more than 1,600 offices, spread across 162 countries.
