ACEA has elected Luca de Meo as its president in 2023

Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault Group, has been elected by the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) board as president for the coming year.

Mr De Meo, who has more than 30 years of experience in the automotive sector, will take over the presidency from Oliver Zipse, CEO of BMW, who has been the president of ACEA for the last two years.

Mr De Meo has held senior positions in Volkswagen Group, AUDI AG and SEAT SA between 2009 and 2020. Since July 2020, Luca de Meo has been Chief Executive Officer of Renault SA, Chairman of Renault SAS, and a member of the Renault Group’s Board of Management.

After taking a new position, Mr De Meo wants to pursue the goals of sustainability and e-mobility in Europe, enabling the automotive industry to create more jobs. “Looking ahead, we need Europe urgently to implement policies that fully support our decarbonisation goal and enable us to face growing global competition... “ACEA will continue to advocate for a balance between what is good for the environment, what is good for Europe’s economy and what is good for society,” De Meo said.

According to ACEA, 13 million people are in Europe’s auto industry, representing 7% of all EU jobs. The European automotive sector is also the largest investor in innovation in the continent, with €58.8 billion spent annually for R&D.
