The Chinese automaker Great Wall Motors has kicked off its plans for Europe by opening a Munich HQ as a major step towards becoming global.

The European HQ will be the centre of research and development, sales and vehicle technologies and intensify the cooperation between GMW and its suppliers, including Svolt Energy Technology, which recently invested €2 billion into building two battery plants in Germany.

First models to arrive in 2022

The GWM Munich team will reach 300 employees by 2022 and guide the build-up of an ecosystem designed for European customers. GMW aims to establish a comprehensive life-in-auto experience by providing charging, maintenance and used car replacement services.

GWM customers will be able to contribute to the product development process through the WEY&ORA app platform.

The following steps in GMW's plan include opening GWM Brand Experience Centres in Munich and Berlin in 2022 and commencing the pre-sales of WEY Coffee 01 and ORA Cat, which will be released in the first half of 2022.
