Brussels gets hybrid tram bus along ring road

Public transport company De Lijn is taking into service a series of hybrid tram buses to improve traffic flow in the outskirts to the North of the Belgian capital.

The buses, manufactured by Van Hool, are 24m in length and will drive on dedicated bus lanes. They have a capacity for 137 passengers, 51 of whom will have a seat.

The new tram buses will connect the university hospital UZ-VUB to Brussels Airport in Zaventem.

Local authorities are hoping the new buses will take 10,000 cars from the ring road every day.
